iPhone 3GS Overview (from an E71 user)
It’s been five days since I got an iPhone 3GS and here are just some quick thoughts.
Things I like:
- The caller photo is BIG.
- The mobile web experience is a whole lot better (I think I’m gonna use way more data that I used to consume with the E71).
- Calendar syncs well with my Google Calendar, which is synced to my iCal.
- Tethering is very simple, both via Bluetooth or USB cable.
- It’s intelligent enough to switch connection modes without configuring anything (Wifi to mobile data). Just switch Wifi off and it will use Cell data automatically.
- It doesn’t have a problem storing numbers with special codes (for VOIP rates).
- Copy/Paste is intuitive. I’ve already used it several times with great success.
- Everything is a whole lot faster compared to my first-gen iPod Touch – Safari and all the other native apps come up instantly, my Twitter apps open faster.
Things I don’t like:
- Mail app could be better. I usually end up using Gmail’s mobile site instead, which just works so well on the iPhone.
- The battery doesn’t last as long as I hoped. But we’ll see how it goes once my usage normalizes.
- No ringer profiles – cause there are times I want the phone to be silent w/vibrate, then silent w/out vibrate, ringer on w/out vibrate and ringer on w/vibrate. Not a major annoyance though.
