Apparently, iOS 4 can take advantage of encryption hardware present in the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the third generation iPod Touch. It’s on by default if you buy your device with iOS 4 installed. For hardware that came with iOS 3, you have to backup and restore to enable the feature.
